Important Update on Volumetric Shipments
Dear customers,
Recently we have observed an increase in the number of oversized parcels, in particular:
• front and rear car bumpers,
• headlights,
• other body parts.
Why are such parcels charged by volumetric weight?
According to our Terms of Service, parcels with one side longer than 1 meter, or with a difference of more than 300% between actual weight and volumetric weight, are charged based on volumetric weight using the international air freight formula:
X × Y × Z / 6000 = volumetric weight
This formula was not created by BayShop; it is used by airlines worldwide.
Official information is available here.
Why are such parcels automatically held at the U.S. warehouse?
According to our statistics, most oversized parcels later remain unclaimed if the cost is not recalculated in a format convenient for the customer.
To avoid unnecessary expenses and misunderstandings, we have introduced automatic holding of such shipments until the customer makes a decision.
What we CANNOT do:
• We cannot pack headlights in polyethylene — the risk of damage is almost 100%.
• We cannot bend bumpers — a bent bumper occupies almost the same volume.
• We cannot place bumpers and cargo longer than ~1.4 m on pallets — they simply do not fit physically.
What we CAN offer:
For parcels subject to volumetric calculation:
• longer than 1 meter, or
• with a difference of more than 300% between volumetric and actual weight,
two options are available:
1. A 35% discount on the shipping cost
2. Return of the item to the seller
Important fact:
Only 0.34% of all BayShop parcels are charged by volumetric weight.
For 99.66% of shipments, volumetric calculation does not apply.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
The BayShop Team
